My 2006 Forester XT is throwing a check engine code already.

It's only been two weeks give or take a day and there is a check engine code.

I'm upset about this.

Always worth a check! Happened to me in my car.

First thing I checked. I think it's the cat. Drivability is the same, just with that horrible, horrible light.

All depends upon the code... Is a major service due soon? Something simple like that?

It's at 124k, full service records the first owner was anal about it. I have to read the code tomorrow.

A cheap code scanner is in the neighborhood of 20 bucks these days. It's a HUGE investment in my opinion and eliminates the need to waste gas to go to AutoZone to have codes read. It really frees you from someone else touching your car and makes you more independent. I carry a code scanner in my car at all times, and it has proved massively useful for me, and for friends who have CEL's pop up. If you're a car guy, it's a must have.

I got a code for my cat 3-4 weeks after I bought my impreza, so it might be that, similar miles to you too : 124k you vs. roughly 110k for me

I have one, just too tired/lazy to scan it right now. I will in the morning. I just want it to be emissions related.

Good thing I will be removing all of those shortly.

Ah OK. Why the preference for emissions related codes?

Do you live in a non-emissions/regulations state? Or are you just a bad ass?

Because all my exhaust is going bye bye in a week or two.

They give zero shits in Minnesota. I owned a fully straight, 3" straight piped E30 325is and that thing shot flame and smelled like a boat.

Also I'm bad ass.
